Patrick Mullen

Vice President and General Manager, WFLD 32 Fox

Patrick J. (Pat) Mullen is Vice President and General Manager of WFLD Fox Chicago and WPWR My50 Chicago.  Pat joined the stations in April of 2006. Before that, he served as president of Tribune Broadcasting from January 2003 until October of 2005. He was responsible for the company’s 26 television stations, its entertainment division, Superstation WGN and WGN-AM, Chicago.

Mullen had oversight responsibility for the company’s television group since March 2001, when he was appointed president of Tribune Television.  Prior to that Mr. Mullen was regional vice president of Tribune Television from 1998 to 2001 with management responsibility for 11 stations.

Mullen began his career in 1979 as an account executive with WGTU-TV/WGTQ-TV, Traverse City, Mich., where he was promoted to sales manager in 1980.  He served as general sales manager at WKFT-TV, Fayetteville, N.C., in 1982 and 1983 before joining WXMI-TV, Grand Rapids, Mich., as director/sales.  He was named vice president/station manager of WXMI in 1988 and president/general manager in 1989.

A native of Pentwater, Mich., born July 6, 1955, Mullen attended the University of Michigan, where he studied speech communications with a concentration in radio/television. He served as chairman emeritus of the Fox Affiliates Board of Governors, chairman of The Association for Maximum Service Television (MSTV) board and a board member of the Television Bureau of Advertising (TVB) and the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB). Mullen also is a past president and the founding chairman of the Michigan Association of Broadcasters Foundation. In addition, he is a member of the Quello Center Board of Advisors at Michigan State University, and the Northwestern University Associates.   He also serves on the board of directors for Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium.
